The TopSec B.3 fingerprint module connects capacitive Touchstrip TCS4H or thermal ATMEL swipe sensor. TopSec B.3 combines the BREAL recognition algorithms and the robust and very resistant thermal working sensor technology of ATMEL.

Through the active capacitive pixel technology of Touchstrip TCS4H swipe sensor the module/sensor combination generates razor sharp finger pictures and guarantees excellent image quality over a broad population with different skin types and using environments leading to accurate recognition performance.

Overview of supported swipe sensors

The TopSec ID fingerprint module B.3 supports swipe sensors with different FW versions.

Thermal Swipe Sensor ATMEL

TopSec B.3 and ATMEL sensor is an ideal combination of B.family embedded recognition technology and ATMEL thermal fingerprint sensor technology. The ATMEL sensor is a single chip, high performance and low cost sensor based on temperature physical sensing effects, where no optics, no prism and light source are required. It has a linear shape, allowing for the capture of a fingerprint image by sweeping the finger across the sensing area.

The ATMEL stripe fingerprint sensor with its robust sensor technology provides highest durability/reliability and excellent image capturing capability through its thermal principle. The sensor is coated with a sensitive layer which prevents the user from touching the sensor chip surface. The coating also protects the sensor against ESD well above 15kV as well as for extreme wear-and-tear (> 1 million tips).

The sensor is well known and provides field test confirmed very high image quality that utilizes all 256 gray scale values in each pixel. Due to their self cleaning principle latent fingerprints are no problem. In combination with the on the fly reconstruction algorithms optimized on our TopSec platform the combination ensure highest flexibility in moving velocity and smooth variations in the moving direction.

Capacitive Swipe TouchStrip TCS4H sensor

The TCS4H produces the best and cleanest possible fingerprint image through its patented HD3D sensing dual plate active pixel designed system, which achieves stringent image quality requirements of NIST and FBI. Furthermore this ultra-sensitive imaging system enables the use of SteelCoatTM, a thick, tough, protective layer for maximum durability and optimal cosmetic appearance.

The Touchstrip TCS4H UPEK sensor is an advanced sensor and incorporates an active-pixel capacitive approach which provides much higher immunity to parasitic effects. This leads to improved sensitivity and higher signal-to-noise ratio to capture high quality fingerprints across a broader population of users and skin types, under a wider range of conditions.

Together with UPEKs Image Capture and reconstruction algorithms which are running on TopSec and TopSec B-REAL encoding and matching algorithms an excellent recognition sub system is provided to verify and identify a wide range of different finger conditions under different environmental conditions.
